Welcome back to NRG Stadium, Irv Smith Jr.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Smith and the Houston Texans agreed to a one-year deal ahead of next week's draft. The former Alabama standout was a promising player as a depth option late last season amid a run to the postseason.

Smith, a former second-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings, played in five games with one start, filling in when tight end Cade Stover underwent an emergency appendectomy. He blocked extremely well as an elevation from the practice squad in a win over the Miami Dolphins last season in early December.

Since being drafted out of Alabama, Smith has 109 career receptions in the NFL for 973 yards and 10 touchdowns. He previously played with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals, along with Vikings.

The Texans have seven picks entering next week's draft.
