Power rankings mean little entering the NFL regular season, but at least it's a strong gauge to see what the outside believes of a team's potential for the impending year.

As tradition, Yahoo! Sports' Frank Schwab revealed his preseason power rankings ahead of the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday morning. While the Houston Texans didn't claim a top-3 spot like the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills, Schwab still believes they're a top-10 roster, granting them the final spot at No. 10.

"Jadeveon Clowney is back with the Texans, and that's a fun feel-good story," Schwab wrote. "Since he left the Texans in 2018, he has been with six teams over the past seven seasons. He provides depth on the edge for the Texans, whose defense already looked great."

Clowney, 33, is back on a one-year deal to become the No. 3 defensive end behind All-Pro Will Anderson Jr. and Pro Bowler Danielle Hunter. The Texans are hopeful that the former No. 1 overall pick from 2014 can return to his late-season form as a pass rusher, which will only strengthen Houston's defensive line play.

Over his final three seasons at Reliant Stadium, Clowney was named a Pro Bowler. He also racked up 20 sacks and 34 tackles for loss, helping Houston make the divisional round twice. But given that he never reached double-digit sacks in a season, the Texans kept their offers reasonable in negotiations. That led to Houston trading him away to Seattle in exchange for Jacob Martin and several draft picks.

But after a seven-year hiatus, Clowney is back. He still has enough juice left in the tank after totaling a team-leading 8.5 sacks and 12 tackles for loss as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. Over the past three seasons, he's also notched 24 sacks and 41 tackles for loss.

The Texans open the regular season against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 13.
