The recruiting train is starting to roll.

On the morning of April 26, Michigan football locked up who it hopes is the future of the quarterback room in four-star Brady Smigiel, a top-100 consensus player in the Class of 2026. Later that night, the Wolverines got a pledge from somebody who hopes to make a living chasing down that position.

U-M added three-star edge Tariq Boney of Washington D.C. (St. Johns High School), one of Michigan's best recruiting hotbeds and the same alma mater as former six-year defensive back Quinten Johnson.

Boney doesn't have the elite rankings like some other U-M recruits. He's graded as the No. 81 edge in the country and not inside the top 1,000 players in the Class of 2026 according to 247sports composite rankings. But his offer sheet implies a number of programs see untapped potential.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive lineman held offers from more than two dozen Division I programs, including Georgia, Penn State, Auburn, West Virginia, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin.
