Téji Savanier wanted to leave Montpellier in January but move was blocked by club president
According to a report from Foot Mercato, Téji Savanier (33) asked to leave Montpellier HSC during the winter transfer window, but his departure was blocked by the club president Laurent Nicollin.
The French outlet writes that the sporting director, Bruno Carotti, had been willing to let Savanier leave on a free transfer in January, but Nicollin demanded at a minimum €3 million for a player who arrived back at his boyhood club in 2019.
Savanier’s relationship with the Montpellier hierarchy is reportedly completely broken after this season. In December, the Montpellier-native was stripped of his captaincy after an outburst towards fans when the club were eliminated by minnows Le Puy from the Coupe de France.
There has been interest from the Middle East in Savanier, with Mohammed Toubache-Ter writing that a club from Qatar and one from Saudi Arabia are looking at buying him at the end of the season.
