It's been 10 months since Ethan Pritchard was shot in the head, and the Florida State University linebacker is starting to get back on his feet.
Pritchard's first steps since the shooting show his recovery is slow and steady as are the wheels of justice for the accused shooters that nearly took his life.
Within two weeks of the incident, four people were arrested in connection to the life-threatening shooting that occurred hours after FSU's season opener. Prosecutors say the shooting was a case of mistaken identity and Pritchard was merely in the "wrong place at the wrong time."
Caron Miller, Jayden Bodison, Germany Atkins and a 16-year-old who's name wasn't released because they are a juvenile were charged.
Now, only three of the cases remain open, working their way through the legal process.
Miller, 19, and Bodison, 23, were both arrested on three charges of attempted murder and one charge of shooting into an occupied dwelling while records show Atkins was originally only charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell.
About a month ago, prosecutors dropped all charges against Bodison and the case was closed May 11.
"Mr. Bodison was previously identified, along with two other individuals as being shooters in this case," court records say. "However, after the video was able to be cleaned up with additional technology, it became apparent that Mr. Bodison was misidentified. The appropriate party has been identified and is now charged with the same offenses."
The same day all charges were dropped against Bodison, a new case was filed against Atkins, and the 19-year-old now faces attempted murder charges in addition to his previous charges.
Both Miller and Atkins have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them and are awaiting trial. According to Gadsden County court records, the two young men have case management hearings scheduled for Sept. 3.
The two are accused of shooting Pritchard Aug. 31, 2025, in his car while he taking his aunt and a 3-year-old child home from a family cookout in Havana. He spent over a month in the intensive care unit at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, followed by months of recovery at TMH and Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville.
In an recent exclusive interview with the Tallahassee Democrat, Pritchard said he "beat death" and plans to return to the Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium just shy of a year since the life-changing event.
"I don't want to put no specific time standpoint, but I will tell you that I'm going to walk out there on the field, come first game," Pritchard told the Tallahassee Democrat.
