On Monday, Michigan announced that athletic director Warde Manuel would be stepping down at the end of the year. However, that decision has caused debate, with some feeling Manuel and Michigan should part ways now.

In this edition of SB Nation Reacts, we’re asking if you’d prefer that Manuel step down now or at the end of the year. Vote below.

Manuel’s been athletic director for many successes, including national championship victories for the football and men’s basketball programs in the last three years. Manuel’s also presided as AD amidst scandals, with the most recent involving former Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore.

Michigan released an outline of an investigation into the athletic department on Monday, the same day the Manuel news surfaced. The investigation claimed that there was no widespread misconduct in the department and goes so far as to say that Manuel “demonstrated important leadership strengths.” There are plenty who will disagree with that assessment, especially considering the findings of the investigation will not be made public.

Perhaps Manuel staying on the job until the end of the year will bring a smoother transition, or perhaps the process of Manuel stepping down should have begun months ago with a new athletic director already in place before the football season.
