StubHub’s been getting blamed by throngs of World Cup fans who’ve found themselves without tickets on the day of the big game. Now one woman is claiming that she’s been wronged by the ticket reselling giant. She says they refused to refund her after her tickets to a World Cup game in Houston, Texas were never delivered.

She’s not the first.

The Big Lead has previously covered World Cup ticketholders who bought tickets that never showed up. One woman was purportedly refunded when she didn’t receive tickets purchased for thousands of dollars on StubHub.

Unfortunately, the same expedient reimbursement allegedly hasn’t occurred for Lo Renee.

Renee (@lorensep) has taken her disappointment with her StubHub buying experience to the internet. Renee says her tickets never arrived. But she was ultimately able to see the team she was rooting for, Germany, by buying replacement tickets through FIFA.

Renee says StubHub told her that she wouldn’t receive the tickets the night before the game. Renee didn’t respond to an inquiry sent via TikTok direct message.

“It’s been over a week”

A week later, Renee says that she still hasn’t received a refund from StubHub. She claims it denied her refund request.

Renee says a supervisor at StubHub told her that her case wasn’t “formally rejected.” Rather, she says, it was “initially rejected” due to the fact that the seller sent StubHub proof they “delivered the tickets.”

Renee claims that all of her correspondence with StubHub previously indicated that she was going to be refunded.

Now she says that the matter of her refund is going up the StubHub chain of command.

This has only added to her exasperation. Renee says she heard the same phrase when she initially called StubHub. Now she says the company is performing a “full-blown investigation.”

In a follow-up video, Renee says that StubHub has changed its ticket transfer policies. Rather than allowing sellers to directly give tickets to sellers, she says, they have to fork them over to StubHub. Then the company reportedly transfers the tickets to buyers.

Renee says she eventually got her refund.

StubHub World Cup ticket complaints

A StubHub representative previously told The Big Lead that it takes its “responsibility” to deliver tickets to fans “seriously.”

“Many of the issues fans are facing trace back to the event organizer’s technology infrastructure, newly-announced transfer restrictions, and a new app that was launched just a month ago ahead of such a major event,” a spokesperson said. “StubHub advocates for fans to have choice, flexibility and access when buying tickets. Some organizers take anti-competitive actions and try to limit where tickets can be bought or sold. We exist to serve fans on their terms – whether they missed the on sale, are buying tickets just days before the event, or need to sell at the last minute. And with StubHub, fans are always protected by our FanProtect Guarantee.”

CBS News reported that StubHub attributed the lack of ticket delivery due to technical issues stemming from issues with FIFA’s seat reservation protocols.

FIFA replied that the best way for World Cup fans to secure the sale of tickets is to purchase them directly through the FIFA app.

“Our singular goal is to get fans into events,” the company reportedly said. It added, per CBS, “The World Cup is no different, and the issues fans have experienced are largely driven by problems with the event organizer’s own ticketing infrastructure.”

StubHub did not respond to an inquiry.
