Jordan Stolz took fourth place in the ISU World AllRound Championships this weekend in Heerenveen, Netherlands as a follow-up to his second-place finish in the ISU World AllRound Sprint Distance Championships just days earleir.
The AllRound winner was Norway’s Sander Eitrem, who surged pastthe defending champion Stolz who won the men's all-round title in 2024.
But this challenge was too big and left him exhausted at the end.
The AllRound championship is, along with the Olympics, speed skating's most prestigious prize, blending speed and endurance races. Stolz skated the 500 and 5,000 meters on March 7 and 1,500m and 10,000 on March 8, making it a total of eight races in four days. No other skater even attempted something like this.
He did very well on March 7 and led overall after winning the 500 and then racing strong in the 5,000. But Eitrem shattered the Thialf track record over the longer distance and surged ahead while Stolz looked visibly tired as racing wore on.
Stolz’s lead evaporated over the final two distances on Sunday and so did his stamina. Eitrem skated a powerful 10,000 and eventually lapped Stolz – a rare moment for the Olympic 500 and 1,000-meter champion – who had to clear over to make room.
Czech teenager and Olympic 10,000 champion Metodej Jilek claimed silver, while Poland's Vladimir Semirunniy secured bronze.
Stolz told media after the races he plans to return to Wisconsin this week, his first trip home since winning three medals at the Olympics in Milan.
