EMPORIA, KS. (KSNT) – St.Marys couldn’t spoil Sterling’s season.
No. 5 St. Marys was unable to hand No. 1 Sterling its first loss of the season. The Bears fall to the Black Bears, 73-52.
The Bears led 17-14 at the end of the first quarter, but a 31-7 second quarter performance for Sterling would create a 21-point lead at the half, and St. Marys was unable to get itself back in arms length.
St. Marys shot 42% from the floor and 38% from beyond the arc. Sterling put on a powerhouse performance on offense, shooting 54% from the hardwood and 31% from three.
The Bears were led by Benjamin DeVader, who totaled 17 points, five of which were three-pointers.
For Sterling, Boston Ekart put up 33 points, going 13-19 from the court.
St. Marys will play St. Mary’s Colgan on Saturday inside White Auditorium for the consolation game. That tip-off is set for 11 a.m.
