On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped up their rookie minicamp. The team got in some good work and gave the Steelers coaching staff their first look at the 2026 NFL draft rookie class. The player everyone had their eyes on was quarterback Drew Allar. Allar was one of the Steelers third-round picks and the closest thing the Steelers have had to a franchise quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger retired and he's never even taken a snap.
After practice wrapped up, head coach Mike McCarthy talked about Allar and offered up a rather cryptic analysis of Allar's game.
"He's physically gifted thrower of the football, but he's no different than any other young quarterback that I've had the opportunity to work with," McCarthy said. "There's a lot of work there. We're able to adjust some fundamentals that we think will help him."
When McCarthy talks about fundamentals that need adjustment, we assume he means his footwork. This was the biggest criticism of Allar coming out, and most of his worst plays from the last two seasons can point back to issues with poor footwork.
