After an “exciting” tournament season — where the team qualified for state three times by winning tournaments in Warrenton, Clatskanie, and McMinnville — the Warrenton 5th Grade Tournament Team traveled to Redmond last weekend to compete for the state championship title.
The team opened tournament play on Friday with their only loss of the weekend, falling to Sherwood in a close game, 17–18. On Saturday, the girls bounced back in dominant fashion with a 26–4 victory over Ridgeview. That win secured their spot in the semifinals and set up a redemption match against Sherwood.
Bright and early Sunday morning at 8 a.m., the team delivered, defeating Sherwood 30–17 to advance to the championship game against Redmond.
In a true nail-biter of a final, Warrenton battled until the last moments and came away with “a thrilling 23–22 victory” —bringing home the 2026 Oregon Middle School Basketball State Championship trophy and title.
