The San Antonio Spurs may face a major setback entering Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals as rookie guard Dylan Harper has officially been listed as a game-time decision against the Oklahoma City Thunder. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Harper underwent an MRI Thursday afternoon that revealed a right adductor injury, placing his availability in serious doubt for one of the series’ most pivotal games.

The timing could not be worse for San Antonio. After splitting the first two games in Oklahoma City, the Spurs return home with the series tied 1-1 and momentum hanging in the balance. Harper has quietly become one of the team’s most important backcourt contributors throughout the postseason, providing scoring, playmaking, and defensive energy alongside San Antonio’s young core.

Harper averaged 15.8 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.1 rebounds during the regular season while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. His production has remained steady during the playoffs, where he has averaged 16.7 points per game entering Friday night. His ability to attack off the dribble and create secondary offense has helped reduce pressure on Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs’ half-court offense.

Harper’s health could swing momentum

Harper’s impact was particularly noticeable during San Antonio’s Game 1 victory, where his aggressive perimeter play helped the Spurs control tempo late in the game. However, Oklahoma City adjusted in Game 2 by increasing defensive pressure and forcing San Antonio’s guards into tougher shot selection. The Thunder evened the series behind improved bench production and a dominant performance from MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

If Harper cannot play or is limited, San Antonio may need larger offensive contributions from others The Spurs have relied heavily on depth and ball movement throughout the postseason, but losing Harper’s versatility could significantly alter their offensive rhythm.

Game 3 now carries even greater importance. For the Spurs, Harper’s health may ultimately determine whether they regain control of the series or allow Oklahoma City to seize momentum.
