GREEN BAY – When a cornerback runs a 4.38-second 40-yard dash, he’s hard to ignore.

Though he’s not rated among the cornerbacks projected to be drafted, the Green Bay Packers want to take a better look at Akron’s Malcolm DeWalt IV. They are hosting him on a top-30 pre-draft visit, his agent, Rob Moise, confirmed.

Packer Report was the first to report his visit.

The 6-0 ½-inch 190-pound DeWalt had a spectacular pro day, posting a 4.38 in the 40, plus a 36-inch vertical and 10-foot broad jump.

He’s hoping it vaults him into the conversation in draft rooms.

"It's cool to even be in the position of the conversation," DeWalt told the Kitsap Sun. "You never really think it'll be you."

Coming out of high school, DeWalt was hardly on anyone’s radar.

The Bremerton, Washington, native attended Snow Junior College in Ephraim, Utah, but after one season, he returned home. He thought his football career was over and started working in a factory.

However, his high school coach tipped him off to an opportunity at Butte College near Chico, California, where quarterback Aaron Rodgers played. He played in 10 games at Butte in 2023, recording 38 tackles, four interceptions and 12 pass breakups.

The following year, he enrolled at Akron.

He played in 23 games over the next two seasons and produced 65 tackles, two interceptions and 11 pass break-ups.
