Southington falls in 8-man football state championship

LEETONIA, Ohio (WKBN) – St. Mary Central Catholic defeated Southington 34-20 in the Ohio 8-man football state championship game on Saturday at Leetonia High School.

With the game tied 20-20 in the fourth quarter, Panthers’ quarterback Cullen Dillard scored on a 26-yard touchdown run to give St. Mary’s Central Catholic the lead for good.

Dillard was named the game’s Most Valuable Player after piling up 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also threw for two touchdown passes in the victory.

Bryan Gibson added 62 yards and a touchdown in the win for St. Mary’s Central Catholic.

Southington’s Vince Delvecchio rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns in the setback.

Ethan Bosch was also key for the Wildcats, returning a kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown.

Southington ends the season as the Ohio state runner-up with a record of 9-2.

St. Mary’s Central Catholic polished off its state championship campaign with a record of 11-1.
