Sophie Cunningham's profile continues to grow well beyond the basketball court, and now one bestselling author believes the Indiana Fever guard could eventually make an unlikely leap into politics. Cunningham has become one of the WNBA's most recognizable personalities since joining the Fever. Between her on-court intensity, popular podcast, television analyst work, viral social media moments and even a recent appearance as a UFC ring girl, she's built a following that extends far beyond basketball.

Now, author Chuck Klosterman has made perhaps the boldest prediction yet about Cunningham's future.

Chuck Klosterman makes unexpected prediction about Sophie Cunningham

Appearing on the latest episode of "The Bill Simmons Podcast," Klosterman suggested Cunningham could one day find herself on a presidential ticket.

"Sophie Cunningham... I'm going to say 2050, is going to be vice president of the United States," Klosterman said. "I don't know what party she'll be in, I don't know anything about her political views. But she will be the vice presidential candidate, at least the candidate."

Klosterman admitted the prediction wasn't based on Cunningham's political background, but rather on her public persona.

"I don't know what it is. It's something about the fact that she wears those sleeves on the court, something about the way she triggers in-bound plays at the end of games, makes me think she will be someone's ideal vice president," he added. "You know, she has a damn likable personality."

The clip quickly gained traction after being shared on social media by Awful Announcing, with fans reacting to one of the more unusual sports takes of the week.

Cunningham's popularity continues to soar

While Klosterman's prediction is clearly speculative, it reflects just how much Cunningham's profile has grown over the past two seasons. The former Missouri standout has become one of the faces of the Fever alongside Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. She's also embraced opportunities away from the court, launching the "Show Me Something" podcast, serving as an active-player analyst on USA Network's WNBA coverage and becoming one of the league's most talked-about personalities.

Cunningham's viral finger-pointing celebration earlier this season became an internet meme, further boosting her visibility among sports fans and on social media. That moment, along with her outspoken personality and willingness to address league topics publicly, has helped make her one of the WNBA's biggest stars beyond her on-court production.

Whether discussing basketball, appearing on television or making headlines for viral moments, Cunningham has consistently found herself at the center of the sports conversation. As for Klosterman's prediction, only time will tell if it proves to be prophetic. But for now, it's simply another example of how Cunningham's influence has expanded well beyond the hardwood, with her name now popping up in conversations few would have imagined just a few years ago.
