A season-high 95 points allowed proved to be too lofty for Louisville to overcome as the Cards fell by 10 at SMU on Tuesday night.

U of L allowed their hosts, whom they defeated by 14 back on Jan. 31, to shoot 58% from the field and 47% from three on their way to a much-needed Quadrant I victory.

The Cards matched SMU’s offensive firepower for much of the night. They made 13 three-pointers and shot 47% from the field, but turned the ball over a season-high 17 times.

Mikel Brown Jr. had seven of those turnovers, but made up for it with a game-high 29 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field. He also notched four assists, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

J’Vonne Hadley also turned in a strong performance with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Ryan Conwell scored 12 points, but was just 4-of-16 from the field and finished the night with no assists and three turnovers.

SMU’s two-headed backcourt monster of Boopie Miller and Jaron Pierre Jr. had Cardinal defenders in hell all night. The two combined for 48 points on 19-of-33 from the field.

Well, there goes the fun, positive momentum and the notion that this team was making significant strides defensively.

Yes, SMU needed this game more than Louisville did, and yes, the Mustangs shot out of their minds … but you still can’t be giving up 95 points to anyone in mid-February. I think we can all agree on that.

Bizarro Senior Day coming up on Saturday.
