With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise's history.

This next edition focuses on the 1996 NBA draft. After a tough 18-64 season, the Sixers were rewarded with the No. 1 pick in a loaded class. With that top pick, Philadelphia selected Allen Iverson out of Georgetown who was an immediate hit in the league.

Iverson was phenomenal as a rookie as he averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.1 rebounds along with 2.1 steals. He scored 30-plus points 20 times including a 50-point game as a rookie as he cruised to winning the Rookie of the Year award.

Iverson would go on to form an incredible career. He won the MVP award in 2001 when he averaged 31.1 points, 4.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.5 steals. He also guided the Sixers to the finals that season before falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. In 12 years with the Sixers, across two different stints, he averaged 27.6 points, 6.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.3 steals.

Iverson's famed No. 3 jersey hangs from the rafters at the Wells Fargo Center. Some even argue that he is the best player in the history of the franchise.
