Shedeur Sanders is enduring a draft-day slide like few other prospects have experienced. Once projected to possibly go as high as No. 3 to the New York Giants, Sanders is still available heading into Day 3 of the NFL draft.

So far, 102 players have been picked in the first three rounds and shockingly, Sanders isn't one of them.

There are unanswered questions about why he’s still on the board and whether it’s talent-related or something else. Teams might be scared away by the attention that will inevitably come by drafting Deion Sanders’ son and there have been reports about poor interviews in the pre-draft process, but there’s no definitive reason for his tumble down the board.

The Los Angeles Rams have had three shots to take him at No. 26, 46 and 90, but they passed every time – just as all the other 31 NFL teams have. The risk of taking a quarterback on Day 3 is far less than taking one in the first or second round, so the question now is whether the Rams should consider it.

Sanders doesn’t have the biggest arm and he’s also undersized at only 6-foot-1 1/2, so there are concerns about both factors. He’s fairly mobile but that can sometimes get him into trouble when he extends plays and runs into sacks for big losses.

In terms of his strengths, though, he can throw with fairly good anticipation and creates well off-schedule, which are two things that could help him in Sean McVay’s offense. Drafting him to back up Matthew Stafford for a year truly wouldn’t be a bad idea, especially considering many analysts believed he’d be a first- or second-round pick based on talent alone.

Heading into the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds, he might be worth taking a shot on. The best situation for Sanders will be one where he can sit for a year or two, learn from a coach like McVay and have time to develop. He’s not a quarterback who’s ready to start right away, and the Rams wouldn’t need him to.

From a fit perspective, the Rams would be a good landing spot for Sanders. They just might not want the attention that will come with drafting him to be a backup – something that isn't necessarily his fault.

With how hard it is to find a franchise quarterback, the Rams should at least think about taking him on Day 3.
