Shedeur Sandersno-good, very bad weekend at the 2025 NFL Draft is finally over. The Colorado quarterback has finally been drafted.

But now, things are only going to get more chaotic as he joins a Cleveland Browns team that has the messiest quarterback situation in the NFL.

After being drafted in Round 5, No. 144 overall, Sanders is now the fifth quarterback on the Browns roster - and the second drafted by Cleveland in the past two days.

Who will be the starter from those five? It’s anyone’s guess. The one thing we do know is that it won’t be Deshaun Watson.

The Browns are paying Watson a king’s ransom. But he’s set to miss the season with an Achilles injury.

Meanwhile, the Browns brought in a pair of veteran quarterbacks this offseason. Kenny Pickett, a former Steelers first-round pick, signed with Cleveland. The Browns also brought back 40-year-old Joe Flacco after the longtime quarterback had a relatively stable stint with them last season.

The Browns were expected to take a quarterback in this year’s draft, but went in other directions in the first two rounds.

When Cleveland did finally take a quarterback, it was a surprise. The team took Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel in the tail end of Round 3.

After the Gabriel pick, it looked like the Browns were out of the hunt for Sanders. But with the Colorado quarterback falling all the way to Round 5, it appears Cleveland decided to roll the dice.

Adding Sanders to the mix this late takes an already wide-open quarterback battle and spins it into complete chaos. It would be one thing if the Browns took Sanders in Round 1. At that point, he’d be the clear quarterback of the future.

Now, it’s a total mess. Who will start Week 1? Who’s the quarterback of the future? Who’s the top developmental player? Will Watson return as the starter?

Cleveland now has as many questions as they do quarterbacks. Here’s the worst part: None of them are attractive solutions.

Sanders was considered to be one of the top quarterbacks in this year’s draft. It wasn’t too long ago that he was in consideration for the top three picks.

But when the draft kicked off, it was quickly apparent that NFL teams had other plans. Draft analysts – especially ESPN’s Mel Kiper – were left scratching their heads as Sanders kept falling down the board.

Sanders wound up being the sixth quarterback taken in the 2025 NFL Draft.
