Once again, the Indianapolis Colts have missed the playoffs.

This is the fifth season in a row this has happened, and the third with Shane Steichen as the head coach.

Steichen and owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon meet weekly to discuss the previous game. At this point, with one game left in the regular season, Steichen's job status going into 2026 has not been a part of the conversation.

"I have not had those conversations with Carlie. But I do meet with Carlie every week. We do a game debrief and go through the process of every game."

Whether Steichen or GM Chris Ballard returns for another season is the big question surrounding the Colts at this time.

Following an 8-2 start to the season, Indianapolis has now lost six games in a row. They are one of just a handful of teams in NFL history to begin a season 8-2 and miss the postseason.

Ballard has been GM for nine seasons and has little overall success to show for it. If the Colts move on from Ballard, Steichen could suffer the same fate by association. A new GM could also want to bring in his own head coach.

But before we have those conversations, we have to see whether or not Irsay-Gordon decides to make these moves. Will the numerous injuries factor into the decision? Or is another missed playoff appearance reason enough to move on?
