The reloading of Seton Hall basketball’s depleted roster continued Monday with a commitment from Fordham transfer Joshua Rivera, a 6-foot-6 junior wing.
Here are three things to know about him:
Rivera played high school ball at Roselle Catholic for two years before transferring to St. Thomas Aquinas in Edison, where he was teammates with former Pirate guard JaQuan Harris in 2020-21. He was a three-star prospect who committed to Lafayette and made the Patriot League’s All-Rookie team as a freshman, averaging 10.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game as the Leopards went 11-23.
This past season Rivera averaged 10.7 points and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 44 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from 3-point range and 54 percent from the free-throw line (over three collegiate seasons Rivera is shooting .441 from the field, .295 from deep and .500 from the stripe).
Fordham went 12-21, including 3-15 in the Atlantic-10. In the Rams’ November win over the Hall at Walsh Gym, Rivera scored seven points on 3-of-9 field goals and grabbed three boards in 25 minutes.
His other games against notable competition in 2024-25:
Vs. St. John’s: 11 points on 5-of-8 field goals, 6 rebounds in a 32-point loss.
Vs. Penn State: 15 points on 7-of-12 field goals, 4 rebounds in a 19-point loss.
Vs. VCU: 8 points on 2-of-7 field goals, 3 assists, 2 blocks, 1 rebound in a 12-point loss.
With eight more roster spots to fill, it’s hard to say where Rivera fits into the picture, but he is the first wing on board for 2025-26. So far, all three of the Hall’s transfer additions have come from the mid-major ranks, and all three averaged double-figures in scoring last season – a clear shift toward prioritizing production after last year’s fliers on low-producing transfers from the high-major ranks flopped.
Guards (3): Budd Clark, TJ Simpkins, Jahseem Felton.
Wings (1): Joshua Rivera.
Bigs (1): Godswill Erheriene.
