Scrimmage probably reveals more about Dolphins than Commanders

The Washington Commanders apparently knocked the Dolphins around on Wednesday.

The two teams met in Ashburn for a joint practice and will meet again Friday night for the first of three preseason games for the Commanders. Here are a few preliminary summary points from the controlled scrimmage.

On the OL: some struggles running the ball inside. Coleman/Conerly were fine in run blocking. Wonder about the interior depth for sure. Lots to show. Losing Tunsil hurts big time but his absence wasn't the reason for interior play. Daniels also a cheat code in the pocket.

• The Commanders had their ones and twos out there a significant amount of time. Therefore, getting in as much work as they did, the Commanders' coaches may very well play most of the preseason game Friday night with the threes and fours in the lineup.
• The Commanders exhibited a lot of good energy on Wednesday. They were energetic with each other on the field and congratulating each other coming on and off the field. Jeremy Reaves was particularly vocal, praising and encouraging fellow Commanders.
• The scrimmage may have actually revealed more about the Dolphins than the Commanders. The Dolphins are in rebuild mode. They are most likely to really struggle this season. As expected, the Miami offense really struggled to do much against the Washington defense. Mike Sainristil did have a pick-six for the Commanders off of QB Malik Willis.
• The Commanders rebuilt defense has been talking about needing to communicate well, so that everyone is on the same page. Following the scrimmage, safety Jeremy Reaves volunteered that the communication was very good on Wednesday. New corner Amik Robertson also spoke very positively regarding the defensive communication and effort.
• Both starting offensive tackles Brandon Coleman and Josh Conerly had productive days. Both looked good in pass and run blocking. ESPN analyst John Keim questioned the inside run game, even saying he does not know how much the return of center Nick Allegretti will help, because he, too, is a question. Keim emphasized we don't know if Allegretti is going to be a good center or even an adequate center.

So, while it was a positive day for Washington, how many questions were actually answered?
