Free agent tight end Noah Fant was a surprise signing by the New Orleans Saints this offseason. Fant will team with Juwan Johnson to give New Orleans their best pair of tight ends in over a decade. Nevertheless, the Saints are also meeting with some tight ends during the pre-draft process. The most prominent name among them so far is Georgia Bulldogs star Oscar Delp, one of the top players at the position.
Delp is projected to be no worse than a Day 2 pick. With the addition of Fant, it would be somewhat surprising if the Saints brought in another tight end with an early selection. However, he'd also add some traditional talents to the tight end room and be another weapon for young quarterback Tyler Shough.
A four-star recruit at West Forsyhe High School in Georgia, Delp committed to the in-state Bulldogs. With superstar Brock Bowers ahead of him, Delp would just get situational playing time over his first two seasons. Still, he'd catch 24 passes for 284 yards alongside Bowers in 2023. Both numbers wound up being the best of his collegiate career. Bowers was off to the NFL in 2024, giving Delp a more prominent role. He'd have 21 receptions for 248 yards and 4 touchdowns that season. Delp followed that up with 20 catches for 261 yards and a score in 2025. He'd finish his Georgia Bulldogs career with 70 receptions, 854 yards, and 9 scores with a 15.5 yards per catch average.
Following the eye-popping exploits of Bowers couldn't have been easy, but Oscar Delp is a different kind of player who brings his own assets. He's a more than capable pass catcher who is arguably the best two-way tight end at the top of his draft class. His receiving ability coupled with the fact that he'll contribute in the running game should make him a Day 2 selection.
It's hard to imagine the Saints using one of their two second day selections on Delp. Not after adding Fant in free agency. However, Delp would help upgrade the running game and give Shough another big-bodied intermediate pass catcher. While I don't expect him to be a New Orleans draft pick, it would make some sense if he's selected.
