Schenevus upsets Morris, Edmeston rolls Rams to advance to championship game

Edmeston got the big win, but Schenevus got the big upset.

As a result, the Panthers and the Dragons will play for a Section IV Class D boys basketball title at 4 p.m., Saturday, March 7, at SUNY Delhi.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Schenevus 58, Morris 53

Allen Osborne scored a team-high 18 points as No. 4 seeded Schenevus upset top-seeded Morris in the semifinals Wednesday, March 4, at SUNY Delhi.

The Dragons avenged a Tri-Valley League loss to Morris on Jan. 15, ending the Mustangs hopes of repeating as section champs.

Carter Swayer scored a game-high 22 points for the Mustangs, which also got 11 points from Ryan Murphy.

Morris (19-3) led at halftime, 23-22, but Schenevus (15-6) led after three quarters, 43-42.

Sawyer Bridger scored 15 points for the Dragons, which also got 13 points from Ethan Reed.

Edmeston 69, South Kortright/Andes 37

Gavin Zinger scored a game-high 19 points as Tri-Valley League champion Edmeston, the two seed, topped the third-seeded Rams in the semifinals Wednesday at SUNY Delhi.

The Panthers led after one quarter, 18-8, and at halftime, 31-17, before going on a 26-12 third-quarter run.

Garrett Dropp scored 12 points, and J.B. Trimbell scored six points for South Kortright/Andes (17-5).

Landon Wust scored 13 points, Braymon Clark scored 11 points and Sire Champen scored eight points for Edmeston (19-3).

The Panthers beat the Dragons twice this season, most recently in the TVL playoffs, 50-36, in Edmeston on Feb. 10.
