The San Francisco 49ers continued to fine tune their offseason roster this week, officially signing undrafted free agent linebacker Larry Worth III to a three year deal on Monday. The move comes after Worth impressed the coaching staff while participating in the team's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis last week, showcasing the kind of sideline to sideline range that the 49ers' defensive brass covets.

To create a spot for the newcomer on the 90 man roster, the 49ers released linebacker Milo Eifler, a Berkeley native who had originally signed a reserve/future contract with the team back in January.

Who is Larry Worth III?

Standing 6’4” and weighing 226 pounds, Worth brings a unique and rangy frame to the linebacker room. He spent the final two seasons of his collegiate career at Arkansas (2024–25) after starting out at Jacksonville State (2022–23). Across 47 career games and 21 starts, he proved to be a versatile and highly productive defender, totaling 201 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, six passes defensed, three forced fumbles, and an interception.

In his final season with the Razorbacks in 2025, Worth was a keystone in the starting lineup, appearing in 12 games with 11 starts. During that campaign, he recorded 64 tackles and was a critical part of the Razorbacks' defensive sub-packages. The year prior, he tallied 54 tackles and a forced fumble while acclimating to the physical demands of SEC play.

Before his transfer to the SEC, Worth showed major flashes as an impact defender at Jacksonville State. His 2023 season was particularly impactful, as he registered 63 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks, and an interception. This ability to contribute as both a traditional linebacker and a situational pass rusher likely caught the eye of 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Roster Impact and Competition

Worth joins a revamped 49ers linebacker group that has undergone significant changes this offseason. The group is headlined by the return of Dre Greenlaw, who rejoined San Francisco following a one year stint with the Denver Broncos, and the departure of Dee Winters.

While the starting roles are firmly held by All-Pros Fred Warner and Greenlaw, the depth behind them is wide open. Worth will likely compete with the likes of Garret Wallow, Luke Gifford, and rookie Tatum Bethune for a role on special teams. Given his massive frame, he could also provide a unique look in "Big Nickel" packages or as a developmental edge setter during training camp.
