Rory McIlroy made history last Sunday by becoming just the fourth golfer to win The Masters in consecutive years.

A year after completing the Career Grand Slam, he secured his sixth major title, matching Phil Mickelson’s tally and trailing only Tiger Woods among active players with most major trophies, despite Woods’ recent absence in the sport.

While his performance dominated headlines, attention also turned to a personal detail involving his family during the celebrations.

Rosie McIlroy was spotted carrying a handbag featuring a journal-style print of her son’s 2025 Masters victory, when he completed the Career Grand Slam.

The tribute quickly drew attention, reflecting how significant that achievement was not only for the Northern Irishman but also for those closest to him.

Her presence also carried added meaning, as it came 12 years after she last watched her son win a major title in person.

The moment added another layer to McIlroy’s victory, reinforcing the family connection behind one of golf’s defining careers.

McIlroy’s post-win speech further highlighted that bond, as he was visibly emotional while addressing his parents’ role in his life.

The 36-year-old said: “My mum and dad, they weren’t here last year to celebrate with us and, surprisingly, I had to convince them to come this year because they thought that the reason that I won was because they weren’t here.

“So I’m glad that we proved that wrong but, mum and dad, I owe everything to you. You are the most wonderful parents and if I can be half the parent to Poppy as you were to me, then I know I’ve done a good job. Thank you.”
