Rookie quarterback Behren Morton has dreamed about playing for the New England Patriots ever since he was a kid. That was turned into a reality after he was selected by the team with the 234th pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.
He is expected to add to a quarterback room that already includes Drake Maye and Tommy DeVito. The rookie was a former All-Big 12 honorable mention during his collegiate run at Texas Tech. He completed 66 percent of his passes in 2025 for 2,780 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions.
He'll try to build on the potential he showed in college as the No. 3 quarterback for the Patriots under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
"The tradition, the legacy that New England carries, to have an opportunity to play for this organization, it's something I've dreamed of since being a little kid," Morton said, via Patriots.com. "And so, to have this opportunity, this is going to be a really cool experience. I'm going to be a sponge and soak up every bit of information I can get from Drake and the guys that have been in the league for some time. I'm really excited about this opportunity."
McDaniels has a long history of developing solid backup quarterbacks.
There is hope that Morton will be a player the team could turn to someday if disaster ever strikes. He had a strong showing in rookie minicamp, and we'll see if that carries over into the late spring and summer practices.
