Jannik Sinner’s Roland-Garros exit already felt like the result that changed the entire men’s draw in Paris.

The Italian led Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 6-2, 5-1 before collapsing physically and losing 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1.

Then Ben Shelton lost to Raphael Collignon later on Thursday, making an already chaotic tournament look even more awkward for the elite names.

According to ESPN, Shelton’s defeat means this year’s Roland Garros has produced the most men’s top-10 seed losses through two rounds since 2004.

Sinner and Shelton are only part of the damage. Alexander Bublik, Taylor Fritz and Daniil Medvedev have also gone, while Carlos Alcaraz is sidelined through injury.

That leaves only Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex de Minaur from the top 10 still alive in the draw.

The opportunity is enormous because recent Grand Slam conversation has been dominated by Sinner and Alcaraz. Paris now has space for another major name to reclaim the spotlight.

Djokovic is the obvious figure. The Serbian is still chasing a 25th Grand Slam title, and this draw has suddenly opened in a way few expected.

Zverev should also feel the moment, as the first two rounds have not just removed favourites, they have turned Roland Garros into the clearest invitation for someone else to seize control.
