Ryan Kreidler’s third inning play on Saturday, a double, then a stolen base, didn’t bring him a run. But for the hundreds in the crowd wearing his name on shirts, flags and signs, it was excuse enough to go haywire.
The group was there in honor of “Ryan Day.” The Ryans had already beaten the record for the “most people of the same name to consecutively ride a roller coaster” at the Mall of America and up to a thousand swarmed the field pregame, chanting “Let’s go Ryan” as they looped the green.
It was Alan Roden, however, who nailed a game-winning single in the bottom of the sixth to bring home Josh Bell and Royce Lewis. The two runs would secure the 2-0 win over the Athletics.
Neither Ryan Jeffers nor Joe Ryan played.
Ryan cited fatigue as the reason for not playing, and is expected to return sometime during the next homestand, against the Kansas City Royals.
“He just had some general arm fatigue,” manager Derek Shelton said before the game.
“It was just like all right, let’s just move this back and get him back on track,” he continued. “And the fact that he pitched in the All-Star Game, sometimes that kind of stream rolls.”
Kendry Rojas replaced Mike Paredes as starting pitcher after it was announced Paredes suffered a left oblique strain. Rojas allowed zero runs on one hit and had five strikeouts in his four innings pitched. It’s his tenth game pitching for the Twins and in the MLB. Before the match he had 21.2 career innings under his belt.
The team had six hits compared to the A’s three, tripling Friday’s game, when Twins fell 2-0 while only managing two hits.
RHP Marco Raya has been reinstated and optioned to the St Paul Saints, the team’s Triple-A affiliate. He missed around two weeks with a right shoulder impingement. In the majors, he pitched six innings over three games with the Twins, allowing two runs on five hits.
In 2026 with the Saints, he posts a 6.26 ERA, 1.344 WHIP and 44 strikeouts over 41.2 innings pitched.
