Rockies land 5.12 ERA left-handed reliever from Brewers originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Colorado Rockies made a minor addition to their bullpen depth on Saturday.
Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the NL West club claimed left-handed reliever Sammy Peralta off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers.
Milwaukee claimed the 27-year-old off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels last October, and Colorado optioned him to Triple-A following the transaction.
Peralta's Major League career began in 2023 with the Chicago White Sox, and he's made a combined 30 appearances out of the bullpen for the White Sox and Angels over the past three seasons.
His 5.12 ERA is less than pretty, but he offers the Rockies something they lack at the big league level.
Rockies have just one lefty reliever
The addition of Peralta allows the Rockies to pair him with left-hander Brennan Bernardino, the only current lefty reliever in Colorado's bullpen.
"Peralta routinely pitches multiple innings in relief, making him a useful depth option for the Rockies’ bullpen," Mark Polishuk of MLB Trade Rumors wrote this afternoon.
This is not a flashy move by any stretch of the imagination, but transactions like this are what help clubs make it through a grueling 162-game schedule.
