Heading into the 2026 NFL Draft, there was a lot of trade speculation and chatter regarding the Atlanta Falcons and their former top-five overall pick, tight end Kyle Pitts.
In the end the Falcons either didn't get an offer they liked or decided that they'd rather keep Pitts and bank on his 2025 breakthrough as a positive trend and not an aberration.
So, Matt Ryan and the rest of Atlanta's new-look front office re-signed Pitts to a big contract, totaling $54 million over three years.
With the 2026 season just a handful of weeks away, Pitts is earning more accolades. Pro Football Focus has a new list of rankings out for the top 32 tight ends in the NFL. Pitts made the cut, coming in at No. 8 on their list, one spot ahead of aging Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce.
Eighth might seem a bit low for a tight end who ranks third in annual salary at his position, but this is a pretty fair ranking considering the relatively small sample size of the elite play we've seen from Pitts so far.
The seven tight ends around the league who PFF ranked ahead of him are George Kittle (49ers), Trey McBride (Cardinals), Brock Bowers (Raiders), Sam LaPorta (Lions), Colston Loveland (Bears), Dalton Kincaid (Bills) and Tucker Craft (Packers).
Looking ahead, Pitts should be moving up this list if he can stay healthy. In Kevin Stefanski's offense in Cleveland their top tight end David Njoku was a huge part of their offense until injuries slowed him down the last couple of years. Expect more of the same for Pitts - who has a far higher ceiling.
