Report: Penn State Focused On Kalani Sitake

Are we nearing the end of Penn State’s coaching search? Well, it seems like the Penn State brass sure hopes so as ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Monday evening that BYU’s Kalani Sitake is “the focus” of Penn State’s search.

While Thamel says in the story that “no deal has been signed yet,” he does mention that there’s “mutual interest” and that discussions have gone as far as what Sitake’s staff would be and “other details of Sitake’s possible tenure in State College.” Generally speaking, when Thamel pushes out one of these reports between a coach and a program, the deal *usually* gets done.

I say “usually” because this thing is not official, which means BYU has the opportunity to fight back. Given the fact that Sitake is a beloved figure in Provo, it appears they are certainly trying to do that. One of BYU’s mega-donors — Crumbl Cookie CEO Jason McGowan — tweeted out the following shortly after the Sitake/Penn State rumors hit the mainstream.

We’ll see what comes of BYU’s efforts to keep Sitake. Tuesday could be a pivotal day for Penn State football’s present and its future.
