According to a report from Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice, ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini revealed New York inquired about Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee, but Philadelphia set the asking price at a second-round pick during trade discussions centered around Geno Smith.

The report comes hours after the Eagles sent a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Carolina Panthers for veteran quarterback Andy Dalton.

"They looked into trading for guys like Tanner McKee and Davis Mills and Mac Jones," Cimini said. "Those teams were asking for second-round picks for these guys, so, exorbitant prices. So like I said, not the greatest solution [trading for Geno Smith]. Over the last four years, Geno has led the league in interceptions. He has also been the most sacked quarterback over the last four years.

A 2023 sixth-round pick out of Stanford, McKee has waited for his moment and will enter the final year of his contract.

During the 2024 season in Week 17, his first game action would be one for the record books and a potential film on the big screen. With Kenny Pickett nursing broken ribs, McKee became the first player in the NFL Draft era (since 1936) to have multiple touchdown passes in his NFL debut while attempting five or fewer passes. The former Stanford quarterback and sixth-round pick finished 3-4 passing for 54 yards (13.5 avg) and two touchdowns, with a 156.2 rating.

McKee started the regular season finale that year, going 27-41 passing for 269 yards, two touchdowns, and a 100.6 passer rating. Now the 2026 NFL free agency process and draft are approaching, and NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah believes the Jets (No. 2 overall pick) should look to acquire a veteran quarterback like McKee, rather than risk draft assets on a limited college class. The Steelers are the one team that could have an interest ahead of the draft, while a team that suffers an injury could inquire between now and the trade deadline.

The talented quarterback saw full-game action just once last season. McKee started in Week 18 against the Washington Commanders with the opportunity to help Philadelphia move into the No. 2 seed with a Bears loss to the Packers. McKee was 21-40 passing, one touchdown, one interception, and a 68.9 rating, a far cry from his 2024 debut.
