Cincinnati Reds left-hander Andrew Abbott has recovered from an poor start to the 2026 MLB season.
The Reds’ Opening Day starter put together five consecutive strong outings after sitting 0-2 with a 6.59 ERA through April 24. On Wednesday, Abbott allowed an earned run and three hits in 5 1/3 innings to lead Cincinnati to a 9-4 win over the Phillies in Philadelphia.

Now, Abbott stands 4-2 with a 3.97 ERA, regaining the form that earned him an All-Star nod in 2025.
On Friday, the 26-year-old Abbott shared some huge life news. He got engaged to his girlfriend, Cincinnati TV news anchor Lindsay Stone.
Abbott and Stone revealed a series of photos from the engagement atop Cincinnati’s The Lytle Park Hotel, Autograph Collection in a joint Instagram post.
“Forever,” Abbott captioned the post.
Stone grew up in Monroe, Ohio, about 30 miles north of Great American Ball Park. The daughter of a physician and teacher, Stone played soccer for 14 years before a knee injury halted her career.
In high school, she interned for the Reds’ marketing department and received a Joe Nuxhall Memorial Scholarship, named for the late Cincinnati pitcher and broadcaster. After a year at Ohio State, Stone transferred to Anderson University in Indiana and graduated with a journalism degree.
Her first job was as a sports reporter and anchor at WNDU in South Bend, Indiana, covering Notre Dame football. She then took a job as a human-interest reporter at WTTV in Indianapolis. In March 2023, she got the call to come home as a weekend anchor and reporter at WLWT in Cincinnati.
It is unclear exactly when Stone began dating Abbott. But she accompanied him in Atlanta on the All-Star red carpet in July 2025.
Now, it appears Stone has another direction in mind. On May 14, she announced she is leaving WLWT when her contract ends on Sunday. Stone did not reveal her next move.
A Lynchburg, Virginia, native, Abbott was a second-round pick by the Reds in the 2021 MLB Draft out of the University of Virginia. He made his major-league debut on June 5, 2023 and is 32-25 with a 3.48 ERA and 421 strikeouts in 470 1/3 innings for Cincinnati.
