Rookie Collin Murray-Boyles is questionable to play on Wednesday with a left thumb contusion as the Toronto Raptors host the New York Knicks at Scotiabank Arena.
Murray-Boyles sustained the injury on Jan. 18 in a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers when Luka Dončić hit his wrist on a shot attempt in the third quarter. He was ruled out of returning, recording 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three blocks in 24 minutes, 38 seconds.
The ninth overall pick has missed the last four games for the Raptors after dealing with some pain and swelling. He reportedly practiced on Tuesday, and his playing status will be determined on Wednesday, according to Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.
Murray-Boyles was among 10 rookies selected to the NBA Rising Stars Game, averaging 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and two assists in 37 games. He is ninth among rookies in rebounding and is the only first-year player to haul in at least 15 rebounds in multiple games this season.
The 20-year-old had started his last nine games for the Raptors in place of Jakob Poeltl, averaging 10.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks. He has scored at least 10 points in five straight games, the second-longest active streak by a rookie this season.
Murray-Boyles is day-to-day with the injury and appears to be trending toward returning to the lineup soon. With Poeltl out, his eventual return should be a welcome addition to the court.
