The Texas Rangers added a catcher with 12 years of Major League Baseball experience on Saturday.

According to a report from Daniel Alvarez-Montes of El Extrabase, the AL West club signed the 2023 All-Star Game MVP to a Major League contract.

Right-handed hitter Elias Diaz joins the Rangers after recently being waived by the Kansas City Royals.

In 10 games with the Royals, the 35-year-old managed to hit .227 with two home runs and a .852 OPS in 23 trips to the plate.

For the time being, Texas will carry three backstops on its roster. They already have Danny Jansen and Kyle Higashioka splitting time behind the plate.

"He has a good arm and has graded as a solid receiving catcher in recent years after struggling with pitch framing early in his career," Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors wrote about Diaz's potential impact with the Rangers.

Diaz hit a personal best 18 homers with the Rockies in 2021 and owns an 81 OPS+ and 5.9 bWAR in 840 career games.
