Rams Are Prioritizing Improving the Secondary For 2026
When quarterback Matthew Stafford announced he would be returning for the 2026 season during his acceptance speech for the 2025 NFL Most Valuable Player Award, the Rams knew it was time to make some big roster moves this offseason.
Los Angeles has a small window remaining with both Stafford and superstar wide receiver Davante Adams on the team. Both veterans are nearing retirement, and with the Super Bowl set to take place at SoFi Stadium next season, the stage is set for the Rams to win the championship.
One of the Rams’ biggest priorities this offseason is improving its secondary.
That initiative started with signing safety Quentin Lake to a three-year contract extension in January. Then, the Rams acquired McDuffie in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs. And most recently, Los Angeles re-signed safety Kam Curl to a three-year, $36 million deal in free agency.
McDuffie is an LA Native
McDuffie played football at three Southern California high schools: St. John Bosco, Servite and Mater Dei. He spent his senior season at St. John Bosco, and his freshman season at Mater Dei, which are two of the top LA high school football teams.
He was teammates with Lake while playing at Mater Dei.
McDuffie told reporters in August he would want to play for the Rams, so that he could be close to his family.
“You’re going to get me in trouble,” McDuffie said, per ESPN’s Sarah Barshop. “Let’s think. If I could play for another team, I’d probably want to play close to my family, so that would probably be the L.A. Rams so that my family could come see every single game.”
