The Los Angeles Rams have leaned heavily on their tight ends with Sean McVay’s shift toward more 13 personnel, doing so without Tyler Higbee for the most part. He’s been sidelined since Week 12 with an ankle injury, missing the last six games while on IR.

But on Wednesday, the team designated Higbee to return from injured reserve, opening his 21-day practice window. They now have three weeks to activate him to the 53-man roster. If he’s not activated by then, he’ll remain on IR for the rest of the season.

Higbee has 20 receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns this season, playing nine games with seven starts. He’s now scored two touchdowns in three straight seasons.
