Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Rafael Flores Jr. is glad he’s back in the MLB and showing he can produce offensively.
Pittsburgh recalled Flores on Wednesday after being added to the taxi squad on Tuesday. He was in the lineup on Thursday in the series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he hit his first career home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
“That kind of started the whole rally, and I just want to do that the rest of the year,” Flores said postgame on Thursday. “If I can make a quick spark and spark up the whole offense -- that's how you win ballgames.”
Flores’ home run helped spark a four-run fifth inning for the Pirates. However, it wasn’t enough as Pittsburgh suffered an 8-6 loss to drop the series to the Dodgers.
Yet, Flores was pleased he was able to help produce offensively and hopes he can continue to do it to help the Pirates win baseball games.
“I'm glad I'm here," Flores said. "I'm glad I'm able to produce, and I just got to stay healthy and keep going.”
With the loss, the Pirates fell to 35-34 and will begin a three-game home series against the Miami Marlins on Friday.
