Despite all the victories that Paris Saint-Germain achieved this season, not all players seem destined to continue driving these achievements within the club.
During the last season, the versatile PSG midfielder Kang-In Lee has been relegated to the bench for most of the time, a situation that really makes us question the coach, Luis Enrique's decision.
Recently, he has been linked with big clubs, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid and the young star are very close to reaching a contractual agreement, as he is considered a top priority for the Spanish club.
Atletico Madrid, according to media reports, has offered €25M for Lee, although his value is around €35M, so they will have to reach an agreement with PSG for this to materialize.
Lee, 25, has proven to be a very dangerous machine wherever you put him. He is one of the players with the greatest ability to generate plays through filtered passes, maintaining control of the ball in a way that is very difficult for the rival to take away.
But unfortunately for the South Korean, neither the defensive work nor the tactical versatility has served him well in winning back a consistent starting role in the first team.
And it is not that Lee is not enough, but rather that the competitiveness within the squad is too high. His main rivals are players like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele, undisputed starters who have the full backing of Luis Enrique.
That is why his departure is not a surprise; in fact, Lee apparently had requested his departure along with his teammate Goncalo Ramos, and although the fans have mixed feelings about the decision, the best thing for his future will be to find another club that gives him more starting opportunities and is compatible with his style of play.
Lee's future in Spain could suit him well, especially given that the young player speaks Spanish perfectly thanks to his time with RCD Mallorca in 2022. With Diego Simeone's desire to acquire his services at the helm, the wildcard role at PSG seems to be a thing of the past.
Currently, Kang-In Lee continues to prepare to face South Africa on June 24 as part of the 2026 World Cup, where he has stood out as a very important piece for the South Korea national team in its two victories, and any related matters regarding his departure will be postponed until the tournament is over.
