Providence has dipped into the Class of 2027 for its next men’s basketball addition, and he’ll join the program a year in advance.

Clyde Walters announced a commitment to the Friars on his Instagram page late Saturday, a small forward/wing from Alabama who will enroll in time for the 2026-27 season.

Walters was a four-star prospect and a top-100 talent in his class according to 247Sports. He also claimed offers from the likes of Syracuse, Ole Miss, Alabama and more. Walters took an official visit with the Orange in December prior to their coaching change, with Gerry McNamara replacing fellow alum Red Autry after his dismissal.

Walters spent previous prep time in the region with Brewster Academy and most recently ran with Overtime Elite in Georgia. He played in 18 games last season, averaging 6.8 points and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 37.5% from 3-point range. Walters played in the Chipotle Nationals as a sophomore, leaving New Hampshire after his team posted a 28-5 record.

Walters has starred this spring on the Nike grassroots circuit with Alabama Fusion, averaging a team-high 19.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals over 12 games. He’s hit for at least 20 points six times and posted three double-doubles, including a pair during Session II in Memphis. Walters is part of a group that’s out to a 10-2 record and on pace to qualify for the signature Peach Jam event in July.
