The Vancouver Canucks will most likely be without their top center for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. According to Rick Tocchet, the Canucks do not expect center Elias Pettersson to return before the end of the campaign. After morning skate on Saturday, Tocchet said, "Probably going to shut Petey down. He's getting better, but at this point, rather him just try to get back stronger."

After morning skate, Tocchet was asked about Pettersson's injury and if he thought the Swedish center would be out this long. Tocchet said, "I didn't seriously, but it was an injury where I don't know if it's like, sometimes I get in trouble, like, because everybody's different. But also how you react off injuries. So originally I thought after a while, maybe some pain, but at this point, it's progressing, but not at the pace we want. So, why even play him? That's kind of where we're at."

Pettersson last played on March 22, when he left Vancouver's game against the New York Rangers. He has missed the last nine games with an upper-body injury, and will miss the Canucks final three of the 2024-25 regular season. Pettersson will finish the year with 15 goals and 45 points in 64 games, which will be just the second time he does not hit the 50-point mark in his career.

Vancouver kicks off their final homestand of the season with a matchup against the Minnesota Wild. The Canucks have the chance to play spoiler as the Wild will be a desperate team looking to inch closer to securing a playoff spot. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm from Rogers Arena.
