President Donald J. Trump has spoken to golf legend Tiger Woods since his DUI arrest and said he is “doing great,” the New York Post reported on Tuesday, March 31.
In an exclusive phone interview with the newspaper, Trump addressed the “life of pain” Woods endures because of past injuries and surgeries. Woods is dating Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr.
Woods, 50, faces charges of driving under the influence (DUI), property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test as a result of a car crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday, March 27. The Land Rover he was driving tipped on its side after it clipped a pickup truck pulling a trailer. There were no injuries.

Said Trump, “He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under a tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments, you know, the back and the leg.
“He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain.”
Trump told the Post he has spoken to Woods since his release from jail on Friday night. “I think he’s doing great, he’s doing good,” Trump said.
Additional details for Woods’ arrest came to light Tuesday, per ESPN. At the scene, Woods told authorities that he was looking down at a cell phone just before the crash. An arrest affidavit obtained by ESPN said Woods had two hydrocodone pills in his pants pocket.
As a result of the crash, Woods submitted to field sobriety tests and a Breathalyzer. He passed the Breathalyzer, but a Martin County Sheriff’s deputy wrote that he struggled with the field tests.
“Based on my observations of Woods, how he performed the exercises and based on my training, knowledge, and experience, I believed that [Woods’] normal facilities were impaired, and he was unable to safely operate the motor vehicle,” deputy Tatiana Levenar wrote in the affidavit, per ESPN.
Woods returned to competitive golf on March 24 in the TGL with Jupiter Links GC, for the first time since undergoing back surgery. He hoped to play in the Masters Tournament, which begins April 9 at Augusta National.
