The 2026 high school football season will be getting underway in less than two months with official practices, which means it’s officially preview season. Rivals is breaking down the nation’s top teams from coast-to-coast, and today we head back to the west coast and check out the nationally ranked Bishop Gorman (Nev.) Gaels of the Silver State. The Gaels recently released their 2026 schedule on Thursday afternoon and it featured some high level games for the fall. How does Bishop Gorman come away from the difficult slate of games?

Player Spotlight: CB Hayden Stepp

Scouting Summary: “Stepp will be a rare four-year starter for one of the nation’s true power programs. Boats a long, athletic frame pushing 6-foot-4 and can smother opposing receivers at the line of scrimmage. Shows rare combination of length and athleticism as well as natural cover instincts. Not a great track record in terms NFL draft success for corners over 6-foot-2 but Stepp is the rare long corner with quick feet and can change direction. He can plan and drive and shows a real burst getting in and out of his breaks. Plays like a shorter corner in terms of athleticism but has a nice edge in his game and has a physical presence to him. Tackles well in space, can bully opposing receivers in press and is physical at the catch point. A high IQ player with excellent football sense and feel and could play some safety because of his positional versatility. Projects as an easy high Power 4 prospect with an NFL ceiling.” – Rivals National Recruiting Analyst, Greg Biggins

Others to watch: RB Terrance Grant, LB Tamatoa Gaoteote, QB Ace Amina, CB Kamil Loud, WR Zyren Menor, DL Tayaun Lawrence, IOL Jamaree Turner, EDGE Tayaun Lawrence, WR Gavin Honore, QB Chance Thomas, TE Seager Milholen, RB Corey Hinton Jr.

Season Prediction: 10-0

Bishop Gorman, the No. 1 ranked team based on last season’s final 2025 Nevada High School Football Massey Rankings, played a national schedule last regular season that featured five opponents outside of the state of Nevada. Bishop Gorman had played No. 21 Mater Dei, No. 7 Santa Margarita Catholic (CIF Open Division champion), Lone Peak (UT), Kahuku (HI) and East St. Louis (Ill.). This time around, though not as many out-of-state opponents, it’s still one of the more challenging schedules of any in the land. The Gaels major tests come in the front end of the schedule against St. John Bosco (Calif.), Mater Dei, Miami (Fla.) Columbus and American Fork (UT) Lone Peak. We see Bishop Gorman winning all the major matchups early on, the Gaels run the table and go 10-0 and possibly to a national high school football playoff berth.

Sep. 18 – at Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei– W
This time against Mater Dei at their place, the Gaels come away with a victory.

The home stretch features the softer portion of the schedule comparatively to the front end.
