Looking to fill the void left by 1,000-yard rusher Jarquez Hunter, Auburn’s running back room will have a different look on the field this fall.
“Running backs, I feel are going to be solid,” Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said during spring practice. “I wish Durell (Robinson) was practicing, but it looks (Jeremiah) Cobb and Damari (Alston) were having a good day. We know that Alvin (Henderson) is very talented and he’s learning and coming on.”
Returning for his fourth year on the Plains, Alston is expected to take on the bulk of the carries after serving as Hunter’s backup for much of his time in orange and blue. He has rushed for 681 career yards with four touchdowns and is coming off a 276-yard junior season, although injuries limited his production. His best career outing came against Alabama in 2023, when he rushed for 85 of the team’s 244 yards.

Joining him as the only other returning Tiger, Cobb is set for an uptick in production after two years in a reserve role. With career totals of 314 yards on 62 carries, he serves as the Tigers’ main kick returner. A season ago, he boasted the third-best return average (23.6) in the SEC.
The lone transfer of the group, Robinson makes his way to the Plains after a productive sophomore campaign at UConn. As a redshirt freshman with the Huskies, he rushed for 731 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 6.8 yards per carry – the 12th highest in the FBS last season.
Henderson enters the room as a record-setting freshman. The Elba High product became Alabama's first-ever 10,000 yard rusher, finishing with 10,923 career yards on 748 carries and 202 total touchdowns. He averaged 192 yards per game and recorded 46 100-yard performances.
From just down the road at Auburn High, freshman Omar Mabson – the only Tiger to sign during the February signing period – rounds out the group. He posted 2,798 career rushing yards, 332 receiving yards and 49 total touchdowns in his high school career.
