PITTSBURGH — The Pirates were one pitch away from a win against the Reds on Saturday. Instead Pittsburgh blew yet another save as Eguenio Suárez hit a go-ahead three-run home run off Gregory Soto to give Cincinnati a 9-7 win at PNC Park on Saturday.

Scoring Plays

Top 1st, 1-0 CIN: Sal Stewart hit an opposite-field solo home run over the Clemente Wall in right field off Jared Jones. A 99 mph four-seam fastball from Jones caught too much of the plate.

Top 3rd, 2-0 CIN: Stewart came through again for the Reds (39-42) with a two-out RBI infield single to third base. Jose Trevino, who led off the inning with a double, scored from third base.

Bottom 3rd, 3-2 PIT: Brandon Lowe put the Pirates (41-42) ahead with a three-run home run to right field off Chase Burns after Jared Triolo and Jake Mangum opened the inning with singles. Lowe’s 20th of the season measured 396 feet.

Bottom 4th, 4-2PIT: Triolo delivered a two-out RBI single to left-center for his second knock of the day. He plated Endy Rodríguez from second base two batters after a one-out double.

Top 5th, 4-4-: Edwin Arroyo brought the Reds within a run on an RBI double to left field. After advancing to third later in the inning, second baseman Brandon Lowe committed an error on what should’ve been an inning-ending groundout, allowing Cincinnati to tie the game.

Top 6th, 6-4 CIN: Trevino plated a pair with a base hit to right field off Yohan Ramírez. Both runs were charged to Evan Sisk, who allowed both batters he faced in the inning to reach before Ramírez came in.

Bottom 7th, 6-6: Triolo doubled to open the inning and advanced to third on a Mangum groundout. Triolo scored on a Lowe sacrifice fly to center off Sam Moll to bring the Pirates within one. After a pair of walks extended the inning, Ryan O’Hearn tied the game with a two-out single to right.

Bottom 8th, 7-6 PIT: Esmerlyn Valdez hit a go-ahead pinch-hit home run to right field off Caleb Ferguson (1-0) with one out. It was a 375-foot home run for Valdez, who has homered in back-to-back games.

Top 9th. 9-7 CIN: Eugenio Suárez hit a two-out, two-strike three-run home run to right field off Gregory Soto (4-2) to put the Reds on top for good.
