The Philadelphia Phillies have a clear need at this year's Major League Baseball trade deadline.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden wrote Thursday that the Phillies will attempt to acquire an outfielder following Adolis Garcia's injury.

Garcia could miss the remainder of the season with a torn latissimus dorsi muscle.

Despite constant rumors over the years, it appears unlikely the Phillies will be able to facilitate a trade for one of baseball's all-time greats.

"Acquiring another outfielder is the Phillies’ top priority after the significant injury to Adolis García," Bowden wrote. "Although fans would love to see a Mike Trout trade, that seems extremely unlikely at this point due to his contract and the historical unwillingness of Angels ownership to trade their superstars."

Trout grew up a Phillies fan in Millville, New Jersey, so a homecoming would be a fun moment for both him and Philadelphia's fans.

But pulling Trout away from the Angels would be a near-impossible task. The outfielder has shown unwavering support for the AL West organization despite their struggles.

The three-time AL MVP is having a resurgent season, hitting .234/.394/.472 with 17 home runs and a .866 OPS.

If the Phillies want to add an outfielder at the deadline, they may have to look elsewhere.
