After not playing in the Memorial Tournament last year, Rory McIlroy is returning to Muirfield Village Golf Club with a chance to block Scottie Scheffler from winning for the third straight year.
More Memorial Tournament: Scottie Scheffler seeks Memorial Tournament threepeat as field set
McIlroy, who has earned roughly $7.6 million in 2026, logged four straight top-20 finishes at Muirfield Village before opting out in 2025. Sitting second in the world rankings behind Scheffler and fourth in 2026 PGA earnings, McIlroy can also top his best Memorial finish of tying for fourth in 2016.
Scheffler, who leads the FedEx Cup standings and is second in earnings at $11.6 million, can accomplish something by winning that has only been accomplished at the Memorial by Tiger Woods and hasn't been done in 15 years on the PGA Tour. Completing a three-peat at Muirfield Village would make Scheffler the first golfer to win the same tournament three straight times since Steve Stricker won the John Deere Classic from 2009-11.
Scheffler can also overtake Cameron Young [$11.9 million] as the PGA's top earner in 2026 based on their finishes at the Memorial, which awards the winner a $4 million payout from a total purse of $20 million. Scheffler trails Young by $278,300 going into it.
Twenty-four of the PGA's top 25 money leaders are playing in the 50th rendition of the Memorial.
All are in the field except Morikawa.
Broadcasts are airing on the Golf Channel and CBS, as well as ESPN+ streaming.
