The PGA Championship is one of four majors in the men's golf season, but the payout doesn't necessarily reflect that.
With the PGA Tour's decision to elevate select events in recent seasons, increasing their purses, the majors are just four of several tournaments that offer a big payday to the winner. Still, there is something about the major tournaments that makes winning them a bigger deal than many of the PGA Tour's top events.
As golfers battle to determine this year's PGA Championship winner, here's a look at the amount of money at stake.

PGA Championship tournament purse 2026
The purse for the 2026 PGA Championship will be revealed on Saturday during the third round of the tournament. Last year, the PGA Championship offered a purse of $19 million, which was an increase of $500,000 from the year prior.
As a result, the PGA Championship typically offers a purse less than any of the PGA Tour's current signatues events and a few of the other majors.
How much money does the PGA Championship winner get?
When Scottie Scheffler won the 2025 PGA Championship, he took home $3.42 million along with the rights to the Wanamaker Trophy. Of the four majors, the PGA Championship offers the third-most prize money, only ahead of the British Open.
PGA Championship Tournament payouts 2026

2026 PGA Tour's biggest purses, winner's shares
In recent years, the PGA Tour increased its purses and payours during select events that are designated as signature events. Those tournaments now rival the majors with their payouts, and in some cases even exceed them.
Therefore, the winners at the PGA Championship will not receive a payout that stands out compared to PGA Tour events. Still, the purse size for the PGA Championship is good amount of money and shows the importance of the major tournaments.
