Round 1

Welterweights light the fuse inside the Bojangles Coliseum at PFL Charlotte, as Waters (9-2, 0-0 PFL) locks horns with Carson (6-1, 0-0 PFL) at 170 pounds. Anthony Bui adjudicates matters. A cautious glove touch gets them started. Carson with a heavy low kick, as they circle in the center of the cage. Waters feints with his jab, then walks his counterpart into a vicious one-two. Carson hits the deck but gets back to his feet. He lands a thudding left and a body kick, along with an overhand right. Another counter one-two from Waters, who sprawls on a takedown attempt and engages Carson in the clinch. They trade power punches along the fence. Carson wobbles his opponent. They separated, and Waters scores another knockdown with a crushing right hand. He dives in half guard and activates his ground-and-pound. Hammerfists lead the way. Waters postures and drops a few elbows. Two minutes to go in a hyperactive first round. Carson builds a base and gets to his feet. Nice close-range knees to the body from Waters, along with a few vertical elbows. They continue to scrap in the clinch. Carson drives a knee into the body. Waters answers with a series of right hands, who has Carson on the run. A third knockdown for Waters, this one the result of a right uppercut. He pounces in top position and polishes off Carson with a volley of elbows that draw blood and produce the finish. Stitches will be needed in the dressing room.

Round 1

Heavyweights are next to the stage at PFL Charlotte, where Nana (8-2, 3-1 PFL) sets his sights on Neves (9-3, 0-0 PFL) in the night’s first clash of the titans. Larry Carter draws the officiating assignment. We are underway in the second bout on the card. Nana steps forward and eats a low kick from the Brazilian, then another. Neves counters with a multi-punch volley and forces him back to the center of the cage. Nana continues to press forward and lands a low kick of his own. Neves returns the favor and switches stances. He paws with his jab. Both men relying heavily on feints. Nana whiffs on a high kick and sticks his opponent with a jab and an outside leg kick. Sharp one-two from Neves gives the Cameroonian pause. Nana backs him off with an overhand right and lands a series of jabs followed by an inside leg kick. Two minutes to go. More jabs and more feinting from both men. Neves struggling to find the target as the round progresses. They exchange jabs. Neves stomps at the lead leg. Natives starting to grow a little restless in the waning seconds. More jabs from Neves, including one to the body.

Round 2

Off they go in the middle stanza. They meet each other in the center of the cage. Neves slams home a jab. He follows with a one-two and flurries with power punches, not once but twice. Nana paws with his jab but eats a body kick. Two more jabs from Neves, who evades the return fire and circles into open space. Overhand right from Nana backs up the Brazilian. Neves steadies himself. Check hook from Nana. Neves answers with a one-two and a leg kick, then circles. Midway through the round. Neves connects with another jab. Nana misses with a wild left hook. Neves doubles up on his jab, resets and lands two more. Nana goes to the body with a left hook and then cuts loose in combination. Nana rocks the Brazilian with a left hook. Neves answers with a right hand over the top and gives chase. Thirty seconds left on the clock in round where both men have been staggered. Nana pins Neves to the cage and lands a right hand over the top, along with several shots to the body.

Round 3

The result might boil down to this third round. Neves paws with his lead hand and sneaks in a few jabs, then lands with hooks from both sides. Left hook from the Brazilian followed by a right cross. Nana doubles up on his jab. Neves connects with an outside leg kick. Nana drives a left hook into the body, resets and lands a right hook to the midsection. Neves’ punches are labored now. Nana plods forward and lands a right hand over the top. Neves returns fire and forces his opponent to reconsider his option. Nana marches forward behind knees to the body and right hands upstairs. Another left hook to the body from Nana cripples the Brazilian and sends him crashing to the canvas in agony. No follow-up shots were required.

Round 1

They keep the PFL Charlotte line moving with a catchweight clash between Martin (8-3, 0-0 PFL) and the unbeaten Lopshire (7-0, 0-0 PFL) at 160 pounds. Bui steps in as the third man in the cage. No glove touch. Martin looks to get his jab in gear and lands a leg kick. Lopshire clips the North Carolinian with a lunging right hook. They clinch along the fence and jockey for position. Action stalls. Lopshire slaps the ears. They separate. Inside low kick from Martin followed by a left hook to the body. Lopshire lands a head kick, but Martin walks through it and gets back to the clinch. Midway through the round. Trip takedown from Lopshire, who lands in half guard. Martin stands. Lopshire tries and fails to lift him from behind, then settles in the clinch against the cage. Knees to the body from Lopshire. Ninety seconds on the clock. They separate. Martin lands an inside leg kick, then strings together multiple punches. Front kick to the body from Lopshire. Martin follows two jabs with a right hand over the top. Inside leg kick from Lopshire. Round 2

Underway in Round 2. Martin lands a jab, circles, breaks a clinch and connects with hooks from both hands. He smashes Lopshire with a right hook and drops him. Lopshire clings to a double-leg out of sheer desperation and somehow gets back to his feet. Martin sprawls on a single-leg attempts, batters Lopshire with hammerfists and drives into top position. Martin frames an arm-triangle and gets to full mount, then bails on the choke. Martin operates in full guard. Lopshire, clearly dazed, tries to stay active off his back with active hips and a few elbows. Two minutes to go. Martin works punches and moves to the back. Lopshire escapes and snatches a single-leg. Martin retreats to the cage to avoid the takedown. Lopshire controls position with a rear waist lock. He snatches another single-leg but eats an elbow to the side of the head. Forty seconds left. High-crotch lift from Lopshire, but his bid for a takedown goes nowhere. They stall along the fence.

Round 3

Looks like Martin’s fight to lose entering the third round. Lopshire marches to the center of the cage. Martin greets him with a jab and a leg kick, then dodges the return fire. He lands another check right hook and drops Lopshire. Martin maneuvers behind him and slams home a few more punches. Lopshire again gets back to his feet. Martin lands a high kick and backs Lopshire to the fence, at which point he batters the body. Martin sprawls on a takedown and settles in top position. Lopshire visibly exhausted here. Martin drops a few elbows and punches. Midway through the round. Lopshire scrambles to a single-leg, pushes Martin to the fence and goes to work. Fans boo. Martin sprawls on another attempted takedown and forces Lopshire to retreat to his back. He sets up in half guard and drops hammerfists and elbows. Martin postures and scores with more punches and elbows, then flirts with a choke. Ground-and-pound ensures, as Martin works behind his opponent. Lopshire stands. Martin presses him into the fence and bleeds more time off the clock. Twenty five seconds to go. Lopshire retreats to his back after a failed takedown. Martin lands a standing-to-ground right and an elbow. Crowd roars with its approval.

A closely contested first round now gives way to the second. The two men acknowledge one another, touch gloves and get back to it. Moldavsky circles on the outside. They trade jabs. Powerful leg kick from Cappelozza, who continues to target the Russian’s base. Moldavsky answers with one of his one, clinches and pushes his opponent to the fence, working from the rear waist lock. Fans who apparently showed up hoping to see a Toughman contest boo. Moldavsky breaks free and lands an overhand right. Another low kick from Cappelozza, who flurries soon after. He crashes forward behind a flying knee. Moldavsky clinches. Two minutes to go. Moldavsky lands knees to the legs. Cappelozza breaks away and connects with a leg kick. Sharp one-two from Moldavsky. They start the third round by trading low kicks. Moldavsky crashes forward behind punches and forces the Brazilian to clinch along the fence. The Russian buries a few knees into Cappelozza’s inner thigh. More boos from the crowd. Moldavsky gets in on a double-leg but ultimately bails. Cappelozza gains some separation and floats into open space. He answers a one-two from the Russian with a low kick. Jabs from Cappelozza. Moldavsky again corrals him against the cage. Halfway home in the last round. Moldavsky lands more knees to the legs. MacDonald urges action. Cappelozza lands a knee to the body but cannot break the clinch. Ninety seconds to go, and MacDonald separates them. Check left hook from Cappelozza. Both men bleeding from minor cuts. Moldavsky walks the Brazilian backward. Cappelozza lands a left hook. Moldavsky clinches to cut off any advances and tries a spinning back elbow on the break. They exchange to end it.
